In accordance with the National Development and Reform Commission's Approval of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's Construction Plan for Water Quality Automatic Monitoring Capacity in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (NDRC Investment [2019] No. 888) and the requirements of the National Water Quality Automatic Monitoring Station Upgrade and Improvement Project Construction Plan, the China National Environmental Monitoring Centre launched the construction project for water quality automatic monitoring capacity in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The project is designed to clarify the responsibilities for water pollution prevention at the provincial, city, and county levels within the Yangtze River Economic Belt, provide comprehensive, accurate, and real-time reflections of the water ecological environment quality of the Yangtze River, scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of regional water pollution prevention, and achieve automatic monitoring and early warning of water quality in the Yangtze River basin.

The monitoring factors include: conventional five parameters (water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity), permanganate index, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, chlorophyll a, and algae density.
