  • Description:Aniline compounds react with nitrite under acidic conditions (pH 1.5 to 2.0) to form diazonium salts. These salts then couple with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride to form a purple-red dye.
Characteristic

Aniline compounds react with nitrite under acidic conditions (pH 1.5 to 2.0) to form diazonium salts. These salts then couple with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride to form a purple-red dye. The absorbance of this dye is measured at 545 nm, and the aniline content is calculated using a standard working curve.
